Ventura County American Turkish Community is forming VATAN association

On October 14, 15 founding members formed VATAN (Ventura County American Turkish AssociatioN) by becoming members and approving the bylaws for this new organization.  They also elected seven members as the VATAN executive board as listed below:

President - Vega Sankur
VicePresident - Vedat Akdag
Secretary - Michael (Hikmet) Akseven
Treasurer - Dean Sumer
School Acivities - Bengi Hanyal
Social Activities - Cem Ersonmez
Member at Large - Leyla Cohen
 
The main goals of the organization are to build a Turkish American Community, to open a Turkish School for children (and possibly adults) and educate the public about Turkish culture.  VATAN is planning to be a chapter of ATASC to increase the voice of the American Turkish Community north.  VATAN is looking for additional members who live in Ventura County and share the same goals.
