ATASC ELECTIONS – 4 ATASC BOD positions open:

  • President-Elect
  • 2 Members At-Large
  • CFO

 Candidates who have applied for these open positions:

Mehmet Tazebay:  Member -At – Large Position: Dr. Mehmet Tazebay has been a proud member of SC Turkish American Community since 2001. He has served as a Chairman of the OCTAA Board of Directors between 2007 and 2009. He believes in the self-support & advocacy of Turkish-American community rights and establishing community awareness for Turkish-American children. A secular, informed & self-driven Turkish-American community is his dream and he will be honored to work towards it. Dr. Tazebay holds a Ph.D., M.Sc and B.Sc in Electrical Engineering and he currently works as a Technical Director at Broadcom Corporation.

Tolga Yaprak: Member-At-Large/Webmaster position. I was born in Artvin, Turkey. After graduating from Istanbul Technical University, Dept. of Civil Engineering in 1994, I came to the United States to study structural engineering for my graduate eduacation. After earning my MS and PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC) in 2002, I started my professional career at Degenkolb Engineers, a private structural engineering and consulting firm specializing in earthquake resistant structural design and seismic retrofit of buildings. Last year, I started my own consulting and design firm (TY Engineering And Design) where I provide structural engineering and design services for the construction industry in Southern California for residential and commercial sectors.  As for the community service experience in Southern California, I have served at LATAA board of directors for more than two years (2007-2009), as well as I served as the webmaster and member-at-large at ATASC board of directors since 2010.

Burak Tuncer: CFO position: Mr. Burak Tuncer has a civil engineering degree from Stanford. He has worked in San Diego and LA area the last 8 years. He now resides in LA area.  He was the treasurer for ATASC San Diego, and as such familiar with ATASC financial systems.

Burcu Tansu: President Elect Position:  I am currently serving my 6th year at Member at Large and Corp Sec at ATASC board. Born and raised in Istanbul. Educated at Underwood College in England, and later received education at Cal State in Los Angeles majoring both Business Administration and Economics. Also studied at UCLA with concentration of Human Resources Management. I am working as consultant at a Law Firm. I received 100/100 Presidential award from International Lions Club for outstanding leadership, volunteers few times at
International  Spastic Children Olympics, volunteered at many humanistic projects such as Kasimpasa Children’s House (Cocuk yurdu), Elder care convalescent centers (darulaceze), International Children’s Day projects, Ataturk memorial days, etc. I am a good citizen, and residing in California for the past 12 years.

My perspective in life is to help needy people and promote Turkish culture and language in the US as well as bring understanding of both cultures. I am a great follower Ataturk and his ideologies. My nation and flag have both great values, I respect family and pursue hard work in community as a volunteer. I organized the very successful 23 nisan events the last three years as well as other multiple activities for ATASC in addition to the demands of my corporate secretary position.

ATASC General Assembly and Elections, 2:00 – 3:30 pm

The General Assembly meeting is open to all of the members of the Organization. Members are invited to participate and vote in person at the General Assembly Meeting. However, in order to cast your votes, you must be a member in good standing (i.e., paid through 12/31/2012) with ATASC or any of ATASC Chapter organizations (ATASC-SD, LATAA, OCTAA, TALL, and VATAN). Following the election, ballots will be counted and results will be announced by one of the Election Committee members. If you are unable to attend the meeting, you can send a written voter proxy with one of the members in good standing. Please click HERE for the 2012 proxy form.

The Election Committee will post  their statements of interest on the ATASC’s website ( and forward them to the members list via e-mail prior to the General Assembly meeting.

During the General Assembly Meeting, ATASC President and Treasurer as well as each of the Chapter Presidents will present a summary of their achievements, finances, and any future plans.
